A Day Of My Life....

Last year we took a trip to West Bengal and Sikkim. It’s one of the most beautiful places in India. You can trust me on that ‘cos I have seen quite a few places in India.
But this post is not about West Bengal or Sikkim, so go ahead and find out!

So we went to Darjeeling, which is popular hill station in India. Though I was totally disappointed with the place as it was very dirty, it had a few good spots worth visiting, one of them being Tiger Hills.

Now Tiger Hills is a special spot because you visit it at dawn just before sunrise and catch a glimpse of the first golden rays of the sun falling on the Kanchanjunga mountain ranges on the west which makes these snow capped mountains shimmer as if they are made of gold. This lasts for somewhere around two minutes after that there is a full sunrise.(See picture)

So to watch this we set out at 3:30 in the morning. I wasn’t very keen on it as nothing is more important to me than sleep. Nevertheless, we got there at somewhere around 4 in the morning, half frozen and sleepy. I was covered in three layers of clothing with a snow cap and a muffler (I was nothing keeping well on top of it). There were other tourists as well who had gone through the same trouble to get there and we were all taken to a room similar to a glass house. And this is where the story begins…

Amongst us was an American. Now let me tell you this, I have a thing for foreigners… I think it’s their eyes, ’cos most Indians have dark brown eyes (how boring!). Now this guy was alone and was giving friendly smiles left and right. Another family was enthusiastic enough to reciprocate the gesture and was soon chatting away with him. Soon this guy was standing next to us and started talking to us. Now he was not just an American but he was also cute! I came to know his name was Tom and he was from San Francisco or California (damn my memory!), working for an MNC. He was dark blonde with blue eyes, was somewhere around 5’11”. It seems he was here with a bunch of friends, but he alone came to Darjeeling and was asking our opinion about places he could visit, though he had a travel itinerary planned. And he was going to visit Mumbai too. I forgot all about the chill and my fever when we started talking.

I kept meeting him the whole day wherever we went. The monestry, the wild life sanctuary etc... And we kept giving smiles to each other. I was hoping to see him at the carnival in the evening, he said he would be coming but it never happened. At the end of the day I was so sure I had a teeny tiny crush on him.

The next day I was leaving for Calcutta and I remember him saying he would be flying to Delhi, so I had no hope of seeing him again. We drove to Bagdogra airport, which was the only nearest airport and a small one at that. And guess who else is at the airport?

The funniest part was he didn’t recognize me at all! I figured that was because I was all bundled up in heavy clothing the other day with a snow cat and all, looking twice my size and here I was at the airport in a sleeveless top and jeans!

I saw him go here and there, then through the security check. I was mentally wishing him good bye when he came back with a luggage he couldn’t carry as a cabin baggage. He was the last passenger to board the flight to Delhi. The whole while I was watching him discreetly, for I had nothing much to do but wait for my flight to announce departure. It was convenient to watch, since he did not recognize me. But part of me was sad. Crazy, huh?

Then finally I was sitting in this coffee shop overlooking the tarmac and saw him walk towards his plane…

This was the closest I came to having a crush on a blonde guy with blue eyes…
